With support from its Strategic Operations and Policy Department, the San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) closely monitors legislative activities at the local, state and federal levels of government.
SDHC identifies emerging issues and legislation that could impact the individuals and families SDHC’s programs help.
In addition, SDHC engages with elected leaders and stakeholders to advance policies consistent with SDHC’s mission.

Single-Room Occupancy Hotel Regulations Ordinance Updates – November 12, 2020
The San Diego City Council’s Land Use and Housing Committee approved SDHC-proposed amendments to the City of San Diego’s Single-Room Occupancy (SRO) Hotel Regulations ordinance.
The Committee asked the City Attorney work with SDHC and the Committee consultant to draft a revised SRO Hotel ordinance, incorporating the proposed amendments, that SDHC will bring forward for consideration by the City Council.
Affordable Housing Preservation Strategy – October 27, 2020
The San Diego City Council approved seven SDHC-recommended actions to implement an affordable housing preservation strategy in the City of San Diego.
The recommended actions were based on the SDHC report, “Preserving Affordable Housing in the City of San Diego,” published and released on May 28, 2020.
