SDHC 40th Anniversary

Message from the President & CEO

In the 40 years since the first organizational meeting of the San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) Board of Commissioners was held, SDHC has earned a national reputation as a model public housing agency, creating innovative programs that provide housing opportunities for individuals and families.

Leadership from the Mayors, City Councilmembers, and SDHC Commissioners over the years guided SDHC as the agency provided housing assistance to thousands of San Diego households.

Since my arrival in San Diego in 2008, I have been honored to lead SDHC as it addresses San Diego’s housing challenges.

I am also grateful for the dedicated, professional staff at SDHC.

With a staff today of more than 330 SDHC employees, I am proud that so many have chosen to remain with us for several years: 56 for 10 or more years; 28 for 20 or more years, and 11 for 30 or more years.

This also reflects one of the key objectives in our agency-wide Strategic Plan in 2014: “Promote a workplace environment with high employee engagement and retention (Employer of Choice).”

SDHC looks forward to continuing in the years ahead to provide a variety of award-winning affordable housing programs and services that stimulate the local economy, revitalize neighborhoods, and impact the lives of thousands of San Diegans with low income and/or experiencing homelessness.

At SDHC, We’re About People.

Sincerely,

Richard C. Gentry
