San Diego Housing Commission Board

There are seven members of the Board of Commissioners, each appointed by the Mayor of San Diego and confirmed by the City Council. Members bring a broad range of experience and interest to the Board, including real estate, finance and law, and two members must reside in Housing Commission housing.

The Commissioners act as independent overseers of the San Diego Housing Commission, and they review and make recommendations on all major housing policy matters and financial commitments that come before the City Council or Housing Authority. The CEO of the San Diego Housing Commission reports to the Board of Commissioners. Through the CEO, the Board guides staff of the agency.

Decisions around allocations of resources, changes or revisions in policies of the Housing Commission, revisions to personnel policies, actions on annual administrative and operating budgets, and other matters key to the operation of the San Diego Housing Commission go before the Board. (See Housing Commission agendas.)

The resident Commissioners serve for terms of two years or until a replacement is appointed. All other Commissioners serve for terms of four years or until a replacement is appointed. By custom, commissioners do not exceed two terms.
