SDHC Achievement Academy

Aspire Program

A core program of the San Diego Housing Commission’s (SDHC) Achievement Academy, Aspire is a three year financial asset-building program for adults. Aspire is available at no charge to families receiving federal Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) and those living in our public housing properties. Workshops include courses on credit counseling and financial education.

Qualified participants are eligible for special savings accounts in which SDHC matches every dollar saved with three dollars, up to $4,000. Participants learn how to budget for expenses while saving money for:

• College tuition

• Down payment on a home

• Start-up costs for a small business

To qualify you must:

• Receive housing assistance from the:

SDHC's Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)

• Be employed and have earned income

• Attend an orientation

• Open a savings account at a designated bank

• Attend required workshops

• Be ready to save
