SDHC Board of Commissioners

The San Diego Houisng Commission (SDHC) Board of Commissioners is composed of seven members, each appointed by the mayor of San Diego and confirmed by the City Council. Two of the board’s seats are reserved for residents of agency-owned housing units, including one who must be 62 years or older.

As an independent overseer of the agency, the board reviews proposed changes to housing policy, property acquisitions and other financial commitments. The board offers policy guidance to SDHC staff through its communications with the agency’s chief executive officer. The board’s actions are advisory to the Housing Authority, which is composed of the eight members of the City Council.

SDHC Board of Commissioners also reviews changes to the agency’s operations, including allocation of resources, revisions to personnel policies and annual administrative and operating budgets.

SDHC Commissioners who are residents of the agency’s affordable housing serve for terms of two years, or until a replacement is appointed. The five remaining SDHC board members serve terms of four years, or until a replacement is appointed. By custom, SDHC commissioners do not exceed two terms.
