For the seventh consecutive year, SDHC’s Financial Services Department received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The certificate recognizes “transparency and full disclosure” in the annual financial reports of a government agency.
In addition, for the fifth consecutive year, SDHC’s Financial Services Department, on July 10, 2015, received the prestigious National Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Financial Reporting for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2014. The GFOA award is based on standards for “creativity, presentation, understandability, and reader appeal.”
For SDHC’s two-year Strategic Plan and its companion report, SDHC received the 2015 National Award of Merit from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO). Presented on July 30, 2015, at its summer conference in Austin, Texas, the award recognizes Administrative Innovation for programs that improve the efficiency or effectiveness of agency operations.
CEO Gentry was honored to have been featured by his alma mater, Wake Forest University, in a Wake Forest Magazine online article. We would like to share with you this article about his stellar career in affordable housing, which has now spanned 43 years.
SDHC President and CEO, Richard C. Gentry was one of six “Public Officials of the Year” recognized by the San Diego Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) on January 13, 2015.
CEO Gentry was honored along with Speaker of the California State Assembly Toni Atkins and San Diego City Councilmembers Scott Sherman, Myrtle Cole, Mark Kersey and Lorie Zapf.
BOMA is the largest local professional association devoted exclusively to the commercial real estate industry.
The SDHC Achievement Academy received an Award of Merit in Housing and Community Development from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO).
The award recognizes innovative solutions to addressing community needs and the lives of the people which NAHRO organizations serve.
The award represents the success of the Family Self-Sufficiency Program to increase the number of participants and provide financial incentives for achieving education or employment goals.
On April 24, 2015, SDHC received the Outstanding Government Agency of the Year Ruby Award from the San Diego Housing Federation for the creation of HOUSING FIRST–SAN DIEGO, SDHC’s landmark, three-year Homelessness Action Plan that will provide permanent supportive housing for up to 1,500 homeless San Diegans, and its companion multimedia report.
The award recognizes a government agency “that took unusual risk or initiative to support affordable housing and/or community development initiatives in the past year.”
Chairman of the SDHC Board of Commissioners, Gary Gramling, and Commissioners Margaret Davis and Kellee Hubbard accepted the award with SDHC President & CEO Richard C. Gentry. It was presented by SDHC Commissioner Frank Urtasun, Regional Vice President of External Relations for San Diego Gas & Electric, who chaired the San Diego Housing Federation’s 25th anniversary awards dinner.
Two SDHC partnership developments also received Ruby Awards, representing “The Best in Affordable Housing.”
City Heights Ten
City Heights Ten, an SDHC partnership with the City Heights Community Development Corporation and Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation, was honored for Housing Project of the Year – Rehabilitation.
The project improved 129 units of affordable housing in the San Diego community of City Heights.
The units will remain affordable for 55 years for low- and very low-income households.
Paseo at COMM22
The SDG&E Energy Efficiency & Sustainability Award for new construction went to Paseo at COMM22, developed by BRIDGE Housing Corporation and the Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty (MAAC).
The development has 128 units of affordable housing for families, and celebrated its grand opening in the San Diego community of Logan Heights on May 8, 2015.
SDHC is a funding partner on COMM22.
