The San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) has been recognized for innovation and efficiency through numerous local, regional and national awards. The most recent are listed below.
National Environmental Justice Award, 1.31.12
The 2010 Environmental Justice Awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency were awarded to San Diego’s Lead Poisoning Prevention Citizen’s Advisory Task Force, which SDHC is a member. The award was presented at the San Diego City Council meeting on January 31, 2012.
SDHC Employee Awards Recognition, 2.23.12
Six San Diego Housing Commission Employees and one department were honored for their outstanding service and commitment to the agency.
Historical Resources Board Preservation Award—Hotel Sandford, 05.24.12
The City of San Diego’s Historical Resources Board honored SDHC with the Preservation Award for Architectural Rehabilitation for our work on the Hotel Sandford.
The award recognizes our success in preserving the character of the 98-year-old downtown hotel. The project restored the historic color scheme, exterior lighting and wood windows and replicated the original roof-mounted flagpoles – all while rehabilitating 130 rooms and adapting the hotel to modern seismic standards.
Our partners on the project were Centre City Development Corp. (CCDC) and Heritage Architecture and Planning.
Ruby Awards—SDHC Development Projects Honored, 06.20.12
SDHC’s partnership developments were recognized with three Ruby Awards:
A “Supportive Housing Award” was also given to the Ending Homelessness in Downtown San Diego Campaign, for which SDHC provided 125 federal housing choice vouchers, a critical component of the effort to rebuild the lives of homeless San Diegans identified as the most vulnerable individuals.
The awards were sponsored by the San Diego Housing Federation.
Technology Training Foundation of America Award, 11.02.13
SDHC was honored with a“Technology Heroes” award from the Technology Training Foundation of America (TTFA) for our donation of computer equipment.
TTFA is a non-profit organization that accepts used computer equipment, refurbishing them to help schools and other non-profits, and to provide vocational students and others with hardware to learn how to do repair work.
2012 Financial Reporting Award:
For the fourth consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association in 2012 awarded its highest honor to SDHC for annual financial reports prepared by the agency’s Financial Services Department for fiscal year 2011.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting honors government agencies for producing annual financial reports that exhibit “transparency and full disclosure.”
