HUD High Performing Agency
The San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) was awarded "high performing agency" status by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for 2009. SDHC also has been recognized for innovation and efficiency through numerous local, regional and national awards. The most recent are listed below.
2009 Elizabeth B. Wells Memorial Recipient
Former Commission Chairman Sal Salas was chosen for the prestigious Elizabeth B. Wells Memorial Award by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials.The award is given to one commissioner nationwide for being a “committed advocate in developing the financial, political, and community support to expand rental homes. Salas served as a San Diego Housing Commission board member for nearly a decade and was elected by his peers as chairman in 2002. He left the Housing Commission in 2010.
2009 NAHRO Awards of Merit
President & CEO Rick Gentry and Commissioner Khadija Basir accepted four Awards of Merit at the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) summer conference of 2009 in Portland, OR.
SDHC's Rental Assistance Department was recognized with four Awards of Merit for innovative programs and internal efficiency: Productivity Performance Measurements, Voucher Advantage, The Money Project, and merging of the Aspire and the Family Self Sufficiency programs.
2009 Financial Reporting Award
SDHC's Financial Services Department was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for the agency’s 2007-08 comprehensive annual financial report.
It’s the association’s highest award and the first time it has been won by SDHC. The award recognizes government agencies for producing annual financial reports that exhibit “transparency and full disclosure.”
